Week 2 C.S.A. & Farm Update!


Dear C.S.A. Members,


Week 2 is upon us, and a hot and dry one it was. The veggies look great as usualJ I have been using the irrigation system regularly. Each row on the farm has a water line so we can give them a drink when it is super hot. This heat creates a very good growing environment for the way we grow our veggies on the farm.

Week 2 C.S.A. Menu

  • Garlic
    • This is fresh garlic pulled straight from the field. It’s great and we will be enjoying this for a while. It has a much better taste then dry garlic or stored garlic.
  • Garlic Scapes
    • This is the flower or bud of a garlic plant and can be used just like a diced onion, except it has an intense garlic flavor. (Use sparingly) I consider this to be a true delicacy as they are available only a few weeks a year and each bulb produces only one scape.
  • Savoy Cabbage (New Item Week 2)
    • We picked this cabbage for it’s beautiful variegated leaves. Its leaves are the perfect size for cabbage rolls.
  • Bok Choy
    • This item is great for stir-fry or a replacement for celery. I personally think the leaves taste great and would be perfect for a salad.
  • Leaf Lettuce

This will be a bag with mixed lettuces from the field.

  • Crunchy Kale
    • This is your standard green crunchy kale. I would recommend using these for kale chips.

Herbs Week 2

  • Apple Mint

Also many of you forgot to take your eggs last week. Please remember that each week your C.S.A. comes with 1 dozen eggs. I also highly recommend rewashing all veggies as they are grown outdoors. A macaroni strainer is a great tool to rewash your greens before they go in the crisper. We also offer storage tips on our website if your having trouble finding ways to cook things.
